My Diary

Wednesday:
Today I was on YouTube view music videos and normal videos. There I found that when any video is played adverts pop up in the video which can be taken away. The adverts were from different things for example Tesco or JD. This is a good way to publicize products as everyone who watches any of the video will be exposed to the advert even if it was not intended to.

Thursday:
Today I was on a social networking site called face book. Some of my friends wanted to hear a song which was on YouTube but could not get hold of the video, so I posted the link on the wall post and the video appear and all the people can view it. Also I visited other sites like YouTube where they had links to other sites like blogger and Face book to make video sharing easier. This is very good as instead of people clicking the link and be moved to another page or switching pages the video can be seen on the face book page meaning more people will see it.

Friday
Today I was on the BBC website using Iplayer where I can view T.V programs broadcasted by the BBC that I have missed or want to watch again. I cached up on watching Eastenders which I missed the previous day. This is very good for the BBC as it will get more viewers watching their programs as peaple who miss programs can watch it online increasing audiences.

Saturday
Today I was not home much and was on my iPod most of the time listening to the music which I downloaded and synchronized it into the iPod. My IPod allows me to store 100’s of songs and listen to them on the go. When getting the music I just down load them via the iTunes which is software installed in the computer where I can make music libraries and playlist. This is very good to Apple as they will have more income coming in as more people will buy from iTunes rather than going shop and wasting time looking for a specific song.

Sunday
Today I was on a site which allows me to watch films online with just a small fee per month. The site broadcast new films which are giving in cinemas and I can watch them at the comfort of my home. This is good for the broadcasters as people who feel like staying in can watch films at home and not be put off not watching the films as they can’t be bothered to going cinema. This increases the company’s income.

Monday
Today I was on the phone using Facebook and going on YouTube via the phone internet.
This allows me to check my emails go socialise people when ever I like where ever I am.

Tuesday
Today I was watching T.V and was using my sky+ box. The Sky+ box allows me to record programs and rewind, forward and pause live T.V. These is a good feature as i can forward advertisements and rewind a part of a show I just missed and pause a show while I take the phone or the door.

BBC AND RADIO RESEARCH

1. The BBC is supposed to be impartial. Has it ever been accused of being biased (the opposite of impartial)? When and why? (Use the internet to research; check your sources carefully - is the website you are using BIASED itself?
Yes when they had interviewed a disable person on a wheel chair who was in a student friendly protest and was assaulted by officers in uniform. This was impartial as the interviewer was more interrogating the victim than interviewing him to find the truth he was using leading questions and diverting the victim to say something he wants him to say. Also the war in Iraq the BBC is showing that the Taliban are the oppressors and enemy while the British troop are going in there to save the country where as they are the ones who have invaded foreign land and all the Taliban’s are doing is defending their country as any other country would Both innocent lives are being killed both British soldiers and civilians.

2. Why do you think it is important for the BBC to be impartial? (Think about the way it is funded)
It is important for the BBC to be impartial as this increases the reliability of the truth of the news they present also the BBC is funded by the government through T.V licence unlike other station’s who make money out of adverts. So the people paying for the BBC would like news that is not twisted or bent or manipulated.

3. Do you think it is POSSIBLE for a media institution to be impartial? Why/why not?
I do not think it is possible as whenever a news story is published there are people who think that it is impartial and who don’t so they will always have two parties the only thing they can do is be as close to being impartial as they can.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of trying to be impartial, for a media institution?
The advantages are that the news published will be more reliable as what is happening will be shown as they are and more people paying for T.V will be satisfied. The disadvantage is that trying to make the news fully impartial is near impossible as not everyone thinks alike and to change the views of millions of people is hard.
